Even in heavy–land areas, where only the strongest –galvanized iron, cement and asbestos survive; plastic, in the form of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has scored beyond doubt. It is very much essential to define strength of the material at a given reference life time. HDPE has a projected life time of 50 years transporting water at 30 deg. C. However, with safety factors in consideration actual life time is much beyond 50 years.

  7. Installation Ease: Handling and installation cost is considerably reduced due to light weight feature. Also long lengths reduce jointing and fitting cost for e.g. 110mm pipe is available in coil form.
  8. Chemical & Abrasion Resistant: HDPE is one of the most chemically inert of all plastics and with high resistance to abrasion. These two characteristics give corrugated polyethylene pipe a significant long-term advantage.
  9. UV Protected: Black HDPE contains 2 to 2.5% carbon black and can be safely stored and installed in sunlight.
  10. Joinery: HDPE could be joined mechanically and with fusion, butt welding methods at site.
  11. Pressure Ratings: HDPE pipes are available in various ratings from PN 2.5 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12.5 and 16Kg/cm2
  Welding Techniques For HDPE Pipes  
Butt Fusion Welding is a time saving, highly economical, simple and widely accepted reliable method of jointing HDPE pipes. It is a permanent jointing method by homogenous fusion of pipe material under heat and pressure.

Small sizes from 20 mm to 110 mm HDPE pipes by heating mirrors of 220 volts and are manually done without using any jacks. However, for sizes above 110 mm upto 250 mm mechanical jack to ensure proper pressure and alignment while fusing the two pipes. For sizes above 250 mm hydraulic jacks makes job simpler and reliable exerting correct pressure and alignment resulting in perfect joint.
